Karaitiana led the successful submission for the creation of the worlds first indigenous 2nd Level domain .maori.nz, and was responsible for the creation of the worlds first Maori Usenet group, nz.soc.maori. He is also New Zealand's first indigenous moderated 2nd Level domain moderator, .iwi.nz
A key lobbyist for the implementation of a bilingual Domain Name System, and International Domain Names in New Zealand, as well as the use of macrons in computer technologies. Karaitiana participates at the international level of promoting and lobbying for greater non English language representaion where he shares his experiences and knowledge at conferences and to organisations by invite.
